The other new operation is the Dragonfly Lodge (www.thedragonflylodge.com), located a two-hour boat ride into the Chilean Patagonia wilderness. It is owned and operated by the Gorrono family, owners of El Saltamontes Lodge on the Nireguao. For adventurous anglers who want to fish large, innocent, wild trout, this is the place.

Getting There
Overnight Flights From the United States to and from Santiago are available on American or LanChile. From there you fly by LanChile 737 jet to Puerto Montt and Balmaceda, followed by a 40-minuted car drive to Coyhaique. A passport is required to enter Chile. Once you reach Balmaceda, all travel is supplied by the lodges.

Travel Insurance
If you travel to a Foreign country to fly fish, trip insurance should not be an after-thought: Today it should be considered essential. Trip insurance includes cancellation clauses, which pay for the cost of your lodge and airline ticket if you must cancel. Lodges have short seasons and must fill available spots to meet their expenses; thus they require that you pay full fare if you don't cancel within the time period that they specify (most lodges say within 60 to 90 days before your booking date). Trip insurance should include provision for medical attention ($25,000) at your destination, or for medical evacuation ($125,000-$500,000) should you become seriously ill or die. (Medivac can cost you more than $125,000 if you don't have trip insurance.) You can compare prices and benefits at insuremytrip.com. Prices range from $140 to $650, depending on the cost, destination, and duration of your trip and your age. You should read the detailed legal descriptions of provisions and requirements (and FAQs) behind these insurance packages.
